My wife and I have been obsessed with a Japanese animated series lately. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is without a doubt some of the most beautiful animation I've seen - the quality and storytelling reminiscent of Hayao Miyazaki, with the depth of character development only possible in a serial.

The soundtrack in particular has plucked at my heartstrings constantly - varied and lush, ranging from electronic music to heavy metal to more traditional anime-pop, the music stands on its own and I've been listening to it non-stop. Whether intentional or not, the music seems to frequently allude to the soundtrack of my favorite video game of all time, Chrono Trigger. The specific moods they evoke, the emotion and passion they add to the narrative, and the haunting melodies all bring me back to countless playthroughs of the rich narrative tapestry of Chrono Trigger the game.

I've been so intrigued by this connection that I've started to research connections between these two seemingly unrelated projects. To coordinate this research, and in service of my desire to dogfood the tools we're building at Understory I've started a new note on Understory Garden and will be collecting this research over time.
